FND 10/28/16: South Mouth

Feel free to place “south” at any latitude. Ours is 35.9132.   Which might mean hoppin’ john, cheese grits, biscuits, almost certainly collards.  We won’t promise it will be all that healthy but what *will* be good for you is the California Proposition Confabulation (CPC).

What? What is the CPC? Why it’s famous the world over, or will be, at least it could be we think.   The CPC is a semi-rigorous highly scientific unregulated probabilistic crowd-sourced research project into the corners and crannies of the California Ballot Propositions.  Our expert research staff (you, us) will delight and enlighten using state of the art, totally reliable unbiased information resources to tease out the factynesses about the 17 million +/- ballot propositions.  Mighty tools could include:

The CPC will make you smarter and increase confidence at the polls by at least 12 +/- 3% or your money back.

FND 6/24: Comfortable food

The UK isn’t in Europe anymore, Senators are staging sit-ins, my family is on the other side of the marble, and cats are living with dogs. That last bit is really not surprising at all, but really the world is stressing me out.

Time for totally non-drastic measures.

Time for easy to eat, delicious, probably fried food.

I’m going to bake sweet potatoes, make some mac-n-cheese (from scratch, natch), salad because its good for me and ice cream sandwiches because they’re not.  Anything else that gets in my way gets fried.

Have a great weekend! End this week!

FND 1/22/16: build your own morsels

Maker fest time at FND. We’ll lay out various possible sandwich parts on a Sandwich bar so everyone can make their  own ultimate perfect deliciousness.

We’ve got a bunch of wee sub rolls and condiments, lots of greens, and some cheeses.  There’s a grilling thing too for hot stuff.

Happy Friday!

FND 1/8/16: Grilled [stuff] sandwiches and tomato soup

Grilled cheese, for example, or onions & kale, or nasturiums.  With homemade tomato soup.

BYO favorite [stuff] and/or bread and/or drink. We’ll have some of all of those too.

Happy El Nino Friday!

FND 9/11/15 Cold Comfort

This just in: Dogs Are Hot*.

Honest to goodness how can FND even think about food in this heat.  Here’s how: a whole ice cold crisp juicy sweet watermelon.   Almost frozen grapes. Popsicles — healthy ones, natch — and  anything else cold that can console us in this dry spell.  Just please please not cold sorrel soup.

Stay cool this weekend!

FND Today 12/12/14 Comfort Breakfast Grilling

Time to make up for lost time in a big hurry with a late notice.
Ray has been away for ages and was briefly back and is away again and FND is TIRED OF WAITING so is re-launching with three themes in one.
That’s right, a 3-fer.
Comfort food: whatever makes you forget the holy heckfire that was November/December
Breakfast: You know, *breakfast*. It’s amazing.
Grilling: Because pancakes can only be improved by lighting them on fire. Although I was thinking more of apples and sausage and whatnot.
Enjoy the weekend! You earned it.
* Dinner starts around 6:30-ish
* Let us know who and what you are bringing  right here for self-organizational goodness.

FND NOW: SOUP!

Bring whatevah goes with!

Sam and Maybe Meem

FND 12/14/12: Chili & tostadas (couldn’t decide)

The weather today cinched it: we have to have a big pot of steaming hot spicey chili because it was a bit cold.  And we need something crunchy because it rained (what? That makes perfect sense), so tostadas.

Tostadas are the opposite of rain.

We’ll make a veggie chili and a meat side (to add). We have sour cream and cheddar, need anything else that makes chili  -~*C H I L I*~- and/or looks fabulous on corn tostadas.

This might be the last FND this year; vague plans are afoot to go walkabout.  Enjoy the weekend! Peace, courage, fortitude.

FND 11/9/12: Roots

FND has opened the root cellar in honor of autumn weather:
Mashed sweet potatoes, spicy roasted pumpkin and butternut squash soup, beet salad, and probably a roasted chicken.  Other vegetables as assigned.

Have a great weekend!

10/12/12 Comfort Waffles

I know we had breakfast recently, here’s the thing: we need to have breakfast again.
Pecan waffles with hand-whipped cream and honey.
See?
Spanish Omelets. Jam on toast. Fresh-squeezed OJ.

Trust us; it’s time. We know what we’re doing.
