FND 12/10/2010: Cutie Pies

This week we will have sweet and savory pies.  Yum.

Quiche anyone?  How about veggie pot pie?  Steak and kidney pie?  Invent-a-new-savory-pie?

And the sweet ones.  You know what to do.

See you soon!

Ray, Sam and Mimi  (the critters don’t get pie.  we hope.)

FND 12/03/2010: Channukah Delight

Join us for fried Channukah wonder. Latkes and doughnuts and whatever you like with them.

Maybe soup and green salad and some fruity goodness?

See you soon,

Sam, Ray, Meem and of course the critters.

FND 11/19: tacos y tostadas

I think I have shells, etc under control. And I’ll make meat and veggie fillings/toppings.  Salsa, lettuce, onions… Don’t really have the right kinds of cheese, kinda low on drinks, no dessert  unless you count unlimited Halloween candy.  Happy weekend!

FND 11/12/2010: PIZZA!

Could it be Friday? No way! Really? Oops.

Sorry about the late notice — we’re gonna make homemade ‘za tonight. Please RSVP on the website if you can by 4PM so I don’t make the same mistake with pizza dough that I made with sushi rice. I don’t know what the right collective noun is for enough sushi rice to sink a ship, but we had it.

I’ll get dough and sauce and a bit-o-cheese. You can bring more cheese and toppings. We can all bring drinks and dessert.

Happy almost weekend.

Ray

FND 11/5/2010: Sushi festival

Sushi wonderland: Bring it, make it, love it.

We have lots of smoked salmon and we’ll make some sushi rice.

See you soon!

FND 10/29/2010: Scary Food

Dear Friday Night Dinner folks,

Ray is back and ready to be scared. This is a new theme for us, so I am curious how it will turn out. Ursula suggested that we try for foods that you used to be afraid to try (and now adore) or foods that you were afraid to try to cook.

I used to be afraid of sour cream and I have always been afraid to cook souffle. Sam says it is really quite difficult. Maybe I will try to think of an easier-but-still-scary-to-think-of-cooking food to try.

I have boatloads of boiled peanuts, which still frighten Sam. In general, the things Sam is afraid to eat would scare anyone. As a child, he had to eat homemade Sorrel soup and even home captured and poorly cooked raccoon. Not to mention his dad would go into the woods and collect wild mushrooms. We both had to eat tongue. You will not see these things from us on Friday.

So we can all get creative. And if you can’t think of anything, you can bring your favorite food and make up a story about how you used to be afraid of it. We’ll never know the difference.

Happy almost end of week.

Ray, Sam, Mimi and the critters.

FND 10/22/10: Comfort

Cool rainy weather is:

  1. Awesome
  2. Appetitifying

I’ll make a beef roast*, mushroom stew**, and roasted butternut and pumpkin pieces with a peppery sweet glaze**. We also have bread and some beer, prolly some wine. We can use drinks, your favorite comfort food, dessert, and your stories of a week well-fought.

FND 10/15/10: Breakfast

No breakfast since July! We’re hungry!

In particular, I require breakfast burritos. I haven’t had a good one since that time in the San Jose airport at the height of the internet bubble when the plane was repeatedly delayed for fog and the only thing open was a jammin’ burrito stand that didn’t exactly look legit but when you’re starving with no food prospects the rest of the day you just buy 5 and stuff them in your carry-on. really, what could go wrong?

FND 10/08/2010: Fall food and a little bonfire

It was a bit cool this week, so we are going with the Fall food theme.
Interpret this theme as you will — it is late notice so anything
goes.  We will also build a little bonfire in the backyard.

We will gather at 6:30 this week.  Please RSVP with whom and what you
are bringing at fndeats.wordpress.com

If you are signing up on the website for the first time, we will need
to approve your submission.  We only have to do this once.

FND 10/1/2010: SACNAS-inspired food

Dear FND folks,

First of all, thank you for a festive appetizer-and-pie-filled birthday. It was super to see so many of you, even if you didn’t get my subtle hint in last week’s email 🙂 I think the pie was calling everyone.

Ursula has called the theme this week. It is the time of year for the SACNAS conference: an organization dedicated to “Advancing Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.” In honor of the conference we will have Hispanic and Native American food.

Ray has a clinic trip to Palo Alto, so in the hopes that there is some food and company left when she returns we will start a little late at 7PM.

As always, RSVP with who and what you are bringing at fndeats.wordpress.com so this can be a self-organizing kinda gathering.

See you soon!

All the critters of the Levy-Kome Home and the Peoplewhofeedthem.
