FND 12/19: Texanukah. Hannukas. Big, Fried Wonder

The theme is Texan and it happens to fall in a holiday so the automatic theme-combo protocol is in effect. Also we like fried foods.

We’re guessing quesadillas and latkes — big ones — will be on the table, and who can really tell what else.   Chili? 48oz steak? Jackelope?

Have a great weekend and proceed to vacation if possible, y’all.

FND Today 12/12/14 Comfort Breakfast Grilling

Time to make up for lost time in a big hurry with a late notice.
Ray has been away for ages and was briefly back and is away again and FND is TIRED OF WAITING so is re-launching with three themes in one.
That’s right, a 3-fer.
Comfort food: whatever makes you forget the holy heckfire that was November/December
Breakfast: You know, *breakfast*. It’s amazing.
Grilling: Because pancakes can only be improved by lighting them on fire. Although I was thinking more of apples and sausage and whatnot.
Enjoy the weekend! You earned it.
* Dinner starts around 6:30-ish
* Let us know who and what you are bringing  right here for self-organizational goodness.

Halloween FND! Chocolate and/or Chili

Dear friends,

As you know, our nest is empty for the first Halloween since we were barely old enough to give out candy. Help us be jolly during this most festive of doorbell-ringing, costume-admiring, and popcorn popping of holidays by joining us for a delightful array of dinner items featuring chocolate and/or chili (and anything you think goes with chocolate or chili).

If you must attend to your own doorbell, then you are welcome to come for the later part of the evening. Perhaps we will get the firepit going and make some toasty marshmallows to go with all that lovely chocolate. Perhaps we will manage to keep the party going past 9:30, even though it is Claremont. Hope springs eternal.

Do let us know you are coming on the website, dears, even if it is last minute.

Your Sam and Ray

FND 10/24/14 Ess, ess, FND is back!!!

FND August 1: Comfort Food truck

FND is bi-coastal today, so some folks may be getting two FND notes – lucky you.  This note will be most relevant if you are already in California, or can teleport here by 5:30 PDT.

FND is curious what Mexicalbi means so it’s going to converge on Claremont Craft Ales this evening as soon as 5:30pm.  FND hopes it qualifies as comfort food.

Have a great weekend!

FND 7/18/14: Calzones

It was my (Mimi) birthday yesterday or something, and I’m like old and stuff (18) (what the heck that can’t be right) (eek).

We’ve opted to switch up the classic pizza FND by having calzones, which are really just folded pizzas. If I were to make a guess, flat pizzas will also happen if the need for crispy crusts arises.

Birthday cupcakes (homemade from scratch out of goodness and magic) are first come first serve, or you can fight over them or whatever.

Next week is a big’un, since Jacque and Matt will be celebrating their upcoming move/adventure, and it will be my last FND on the left coast before I head off to Olin College. Stay tuned for more exciting installments.

FND 7/11/14: Burritos

Nephew Harry says it’s time for tacos and burritos. Who are we to argue. The planning will be professional and extensive. You may wish to purchase the appropriate technical protective clothing.  There will be rice.  I repeat: rice.

We have already assembled an impressive photographic guide to assist with ingredient selection.  The guide is still being printed on hand-spun silk scrolls encased in platypus tail leather, but of course we also created an online version complete with load-balancing, geographic-zoned edge network delivery, and next generation face recognition.  Here you go: http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=burrito

I know, right? So amazing.

Happy weekend! Stay cool if that’s your thing.

FND 06/06/14: Pancakes and eggses

Yes precious, we’ll cook a box without hinges, key or a lid.  Also super pancakes that are full of Health and Awesome. Oats y’all. Woot.

While we’re at it I bet bacon and other oddments will be cooked.  After this FND will be away for a week (who will host on the 13th?) and return severely jet-lagged on the 20th.

Have a fantabulous weekend!

FND 05/23/14: Snooze button

I think you either figured it out by now or are already busily engaged with other stuff — FND will hit pause for one week.  Next week: Breakfast!  Power Pancakes[TM], Omelettes.

Have a great weeknd!

FND 4/25/14: Waaaay East of here

Or west, just make it far away.  Here’s some ideas:

Asian Potato Latkes

Bok Choy Gratin

Noodles with Stir-Fried Tofu and Broccoli

Scallion Cakes

Shredded Chicken with Ginger and Cilantro

Tropical Spring Rolls with Chile Sauce

Szechuan Sesame Noodles

Spring Rolls

Finally, the ever popular Tea-Poached Pears with Tapioca Pearls and Satsumas
