FND 9/21/12: Champions, Breakfast of

The expression “Breakfast of Champions” is a registered trademark of General Mills, Inc., for use on a breakfast cereal product. The use of the identical expression as the title for this blog entry is not intended to indicate an association with or sponsorship by General Mills, nor is it intended to disparage their fine products.

We don’t want to disparage General Mills in part because they choose to make their cereal products with whole grains, and also because in the same facility where they make their food milling machines, they also make weapons (probably)* and deep sea submersibles (definitely)** and I never mess with an organization that has such a broad mission.

So where were we. Oh right, FND.  Pancakes! Eggs, goobles of fruit, oatmeal, juice and toast with jam.

Have a great weekend, you’ve earned it. We’ll turn the heat down a bit for you.

*Just ask yourself: they made a submarine, why not also make a rail gun?

FND 9/14/12: Celtic Picnic

This week FND goes on a field trip – more of a lawn trip really, to take in fiddlin’ and steppin’ on Scripps campus.  Bring picnicky stuff or plan to buy dinner there, your choice.
More details are here: http://scrippscollege.edu/campus/malott-commons/celtic-spring.php

Notice that the start time is a little earlier than usual: 5:30pm.
Have a great weekend!

FND 9/7/12: Mooned (moved?)

Time to celebrate the blue moon (last week) by eating ALL THE ROUND THINGS.

Could be fried eggs, peas, pancakes, cucumber slices, Moon Pies All Hail The Moon Pies, cookies, pie, more pie, trained watermelon, hoop cheese, globe artichokes, round, uhm, bacon, or a soccer ball.

I may have missed something so do improvise.

Happy weekend; congratulations on your deft handling of the work week. Keep it up.

FND 08/31/12: Pasta marinara con (stuff)

There had to be a latest FND notice ever, and so this is it.

Pasta! Meatballs! Gigantic Salad! Bread!

Have a great weekend!

FND 8/24/2012: Breakfasty goodness

Breakfast and all the breakfasty goodness you can muster.

Dan and Lauren are cooking up some frittata.  Meem and Sam and I will make some kinda baked good — biscuits and/or challah.  We’ll scramble up a mess o eggs.
We’re aiming to sit down to eat between 6:30 and 7, so feel free to come early if you wanna cook at our place.
Happy end-o-week!
Ray

FND 08/17/12: Wrap and Roll: Sushi

Specifically, Edomae makizushi, ha ha, don’t worry we won’t use our stockpiles of fermented neta, no.  We understand not everyone is into that this century.

Instead we’ll be wrapping ever-so-slightly vinegary rice and yummy vegetables and optional fish in sheets of silky nori.  The only thing fermented will be the sake.

FND 7/6/12 – 8/2/12 Summer Break

FND is going to hibernate for a few weeks, unless of course someone here wants to nudge it awake – just remember to give it a big glass of milk and half of a cappuccino muffin.  Seriously I’ll give you the keys to the blog and everything; it’s a snap.

Be well, no sunburns, FND will be back August 3rd at 6:30pm.

* Dinner starts around 6:30-ish
* Let us know who and what you are bringing  at http://fndeats.wordpress.com for self-organizational goodness.
* If you ever want us to remove you from this list or add a friend, just let us know.

FND 6/29: Pancakes

Riddled with chocolate chips, or fruit, or garlic (we’re not here to judge).

Scrambled eggs are also distinctly possible as are smoothies.  Poached albatross is *not* currently possible; sauteed salmon *is*.

We have virtually no bread nor juice if you happen to be carrying them, yay.  Also sort of low on things-to-put-on-bread-aside-from-butter.

Have a great, if somewhat overly warm weekend!

FND 6/22: Migrated Grilling

FND will casually wander down the street and flounce down at the ‘Monts and partake of grillables and chillables.  It’s a few houses down the hill, probably has an address and stuff but you’ll know it by the fire-y smoky delicious smells.

FND 6/15: dumpling festival

Potstickers, steamed, fried, pierogi, matzoh balls, kreplach, won ton, gyoza, gnocchi, chicken and dumpling, pakoras… You have options.

Last FND with Ray, Mimi, and Sarge for a while, so get your fix now.

Have a great weekend
