FND 10/5/12: Sandwich and a Show

Another fast-forward week! Who’s driving this thing?

Tonight at 8 ray and Mimi are performing at the Packing House – circus arts, fabric-y, hoop-y, climb-y-wimb-y*stuff.  So we’ll assemble portable food and amble downtown to watch their be-costumed selves anticking about.

Early FND 12/9/2011: Soup and Sandwiches

NEW BAT-TIME (for this week only):  5PM

Bring on the excellent bread and all the fixings.  Pile ’em high.  Ray will avert her eyes while you dip ’em in the soup.  (Yuck, soggy!)  The Levy-Kome social butterflies didn’t want to miss FND, but we gotta skedaddle about 7 so c’mon early!

whew! what a week.  looking forward to kicking back.

FND 07/01/11: Intersection of Sandwich and Salad

FND is primarily a communal kickoff for the well-deserved weekend, but we do tend to push the culinary envelope a fair amount.
We’re gutsy, possibly even reckless.

Case in point: tomorrow we will eat food which could be presented as either a salad OR a sandwich OR an open-faced sandwich OR (just one example) a salad with toasted bread cut into small to medium sized cubes sprinkled on top.  Toastettes, if you will. Toasticles, if you won’t.

Of course these salads may be meaty or meat-free and the bread may be made from any grain or combination of grains, or even simple seeds.
Because that is just how we cook at FND.

Thanks everyone for the feast last week. Hard to pick a favorite but it could have been the duck eggs or the spring rolls or the fruit salad or the tofu or the stir fry or the Loco Pops pints.

FND 04/29/11: >>> Sandwiches <<<

What we’ll do, we’ll take two pieces of bread – or one piece but typically two – stack a combination of lettuce or other salad-type vegetables, possibly cheese, perhaps meat(s) onto them and certainly add condiments which may be spreadable, sprinkleable, or tossable condiments.  In the event only one piece of bread is used we will call these, ‘open face’  If the bread is subsequently heated in a pan or pressed between heated iron plates then we can add, ‘grilled’, or ‘toasted’ as descriptive terms.

The preparation of these, ‘sandwiches’ will likely render us thirsty so we will drink cold refreshing ‘beverages’ as we eat.  The beverages do not have to be constructed in the same fashion as the sandwiches.  They can just be made of liquids.

3/4/2011: Super Sandwiches at 6

Howdy everyone,

This week we are going to have dinner starting a bit early at 6PM with make-your-own-super-sandwiches.

I will pick up some scrumptious rolls or bread of some sort.

You bring the fillings and spreadables.

I’ll also pick up s’mores ingredients for dessert sandwiches.  Feel free to bring stuff for your own dessert sandwich creation.

Yay sandwiches!

Ray Sam Mimi and the critters.

FND 02/26/2010: Ice cream, sandwiches and icecreamsandwiches

This week FND is going to run from 5:30 – 8:15, so bring that stuff ready to eat! We are going to make seriously awesome sandwiches and eat yummy ice cream. If you like, bring homemade cookies and ice cream and we’ll eat ice cream sandwiches. It is Purim, so you can eat your ice cream first!

Needs:

good bread
meats
cheeses
veggies
fancy spreads (we have the usual plain ones and plenty of mustards)

ice cream
cookies

drinks
chips

As always let us know who and what you are bringing here at fndeats.wordpress.com

Happy weekend,

Sam, Ray and Mimi

9/4/09: Gourmet Grilled Cheese

This week we are going to play make-your-own amazing sandwich. Needed: fillings, cheese, excellent bread, drinks, dessert, perhaps some veggies and fruit for the side?

If you missed breakfast, it was truly a feast. Even the western-bought grits were recognizable as the real deal.

I know it is the school year now, and people are tuckered out on Fridays. but here’s the FND magic: if you party on Friday night the weekend seems much longer! You have feasted the night away and you have 2 full days left to have even more fun. So come on out and celebrate the week’s end.

6/12: Sandwiches

Last week was souper duper. Really.

Anna brought cheese and Jeff brought bread and more cheese! Mimi made matzo ball soup! Talithia made miso soup! Stuart made gazpacho! Ray made garlic knots and challah and banana fritters! Sam made frozen yogurt!

Good eats were had by all. Some of the die-hard-anti-cold-soup-folks even thought the gazpacho was yummy. And in a convergence of awesome babyness, our youngest guests Josiah and Riley got to see each other!

This week we are going to make sandwiches. Bring your favorites sandwich fillers, spreads, and breads — but please don’t bring mustard because we have enough to sink several ships.

Drinks, sides and desserts also welcome.

As usual, please rsvp who and what here. Click on ‘comments’ and leave yours!

Cheers!

Sam, Ray and Mimi
