FND 8/10/2012: Salads, Small bites and homemade bread

It is just too blazing hot to cook in the afternoon!  So let’s have some cool salads and small yummies.  We’ll make some bread at a cool time of day (or somewhere with AC).  Orders for Icy Blended Drinky Wonder will be filled on demand.

See you soon!

FND 2/16/12: Dear little dumpling(s) and soup

They look so cute and innocent, why must they be so delicious too?
Potstickers or dumplings it matters not; we will warm and pile them up and dip them in savoryness and *pop* eat them.

And because it is cold there’ll be a big pot of hot soup. Or two pots, or more if folks bring theirs….
Also: A tremendous bowl of greens simmered in veggie broth.
And: popsicles because the soup is so hot.

Have a really great relaxing weekend.

* Dinner starts around 6:30-ish

FND 12/16: Wintery Rooty Tubery

Down in the root cellar we’re gathering provisions for mashed potatoes topped with parmesan, bacon, onion, garlic, and/or whatever else comes to hand and can be sauteed and then roasted for good measure. Because it was wet and cold. Well it was wet.

Anyway the yams are right next to the Idahos so they can be casseroled with some butternut squash and maybe a pinch of cloves.

The CSA brought some little yeller things, no idea what they are so: frying ’em.

I think that’s about it unless some sainted genius brings a pie, or a pie shell, or something to put into a pie shell.  We can contribute a Rome and an Ambrosia to that sort of idea.

Have a great weekend, this last weekend before the break, glorious break, all hail the holiday.

FND 07/08/11: Stuffed baked potatoes and appetizgasbord

On this, the last* FND of the Summer of 2011, the good citizens will gather around their table of tubers, and yea they will descend on the fluffy starch nuggets and assorted suitable condiments with steely knives and ravenous appetites.

Also there will be a variety of pre-feast noshies.

So: bring your favorite person, potato augmentation, and/or appetizer. Drinks and desserts are always good too.

*last, schmast. We have to go back to CA but FND cannot be stopped!

FND 06/03: Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam

…which is what we affectionately call french toast, pancakes, maple syrup and chai. Hardly any spam (cue Vikings).

FND 01/07/11: Taters

I will make a humongous vat of potato soup through which you will not be able to read a magazine. We have some greens that need to be picked and consumed but more would be most welcome.
Bring what you think goes well with potatoes (I hear they’re the new black).

Oh! Last week we feasted and TOTALLY FAILED to even open the two bottles of champagne. Also: Dogfish Head 60 minutes, sitting there. Just saying.

Have a great weekend!

FND 06/04/10: Comfort Food

Friday 4/9/10: Easy, over.

A quarter of the year is over! You’ve been busy – if my sources are right, too busy.  Time for a quick break.

I will scratch together soups and sandwiches: grilled cheeses on rye or wheat with a trace of horseradish,  or your choice of fixins.

Soup from an onion and some garlic roasted and chopped into ripe tomatoes.

An apple galette or two would be alright too.

FND 01/22/10: Comfort food for rainy days

It looks like we only have a few more rainy days to enjoy, so let’s celebrate them with some comfort food. I will make some veggie lasagne. We’ll comfort and food at about 6:30.
