FND Today 12/12/14 Comfort Breakfast Grilling

Time to make up for lost time in a big hurry with a late notice.
Ray has been away for ages and was briefly back and is away again and FND is TIRED OF WAITING so is re-launching with three themes in one.
That’s right, a 3-fer.
Comfort food: whatever makes you forget the holy heckfire that was November/December
Breakfast: You know, *breakfast*. It’s amazing.
Grilling: Because pancakes can only be improved by lighting them on fire. Although I was thinking more of apples and sausage and whatnot.
Enjoy the weekend! You earned it.
* Dinner starts around 6:30-ish
* Let us know who and what you are bringing  right here for self-organizational goodness.

FND 7/11/14: Burritos

Nephew Harry says it’s time for tacos and burritos. Who are we to argue. The planning will be professional and extensive. You may wish to purchase the appropriate technical protective clothing.  There will be rice.  I repeat: rice.

We have already assembled an impressive photographic guide to assist with ingredient selection.  The guide is still being printed on hand-spun silk scrolls encased in platypus tail leather, but of course we also created an online version complete with load-balancing, geographic-zoned edge network delivery, and next generation face recognition.  Here you go: http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=burrito

I know, right? So amazing.

Happy weekend! Stay cool if that’s your thing.

FND 06/06/14: Pancakes and eggses

Yes precious, we’ll cook a box without hinges, key or a lid.  Also super pancakes that are full of Health and Awesome. Oats y’all. Woot.

While we’re at it I bet bacon and other oddments will be cooked.  After this FND will be away for a week (who will host on the 13th?) and return severely jet-lagged on the 20th.

Have a fantabulous weekend!

FND 4/25/14: Waaaay East of here

Or west, just make it far away.  Here’s some ideas:

Asian Potato Latkes

Bok Choy Gratin

Noodles with Stir-Fried Tofu and Broccoli

Scallion Cakes

Shredded Chicken with Ginger and Cilantro

Tropical Spring Rolls with Chile Sauce

Szechuan Sesame Noodles

Spring Rolls

Finally, the ever popular Tea-Poached Pears with Tapioca Pearls and Satsumas

FND 2/21/14: 3.1415926535

Or round it off to 3.14 if you like and apply pesto.  We can contribute olives, artichoke hearts, and sun-dried tomatoes.  Alternatively we also have cherries, pears and apples.

If you catch the drift.  If not, no worries, bring your bff and appetite and help wave in the weekend.

FND 9/6/13: Appetizing

Please note that FND this week will consist of items belonging to one or more of the following food courses: hors d’oeuvre, zakusi, starters, amuse-bouche, first course, tapas, antipasto, zensai, finger food, dim sum.

FND this week will *not* consist of items belonging to any of the following food courses: Last Meal, Confucius Mansion banquet, sautéed cicadas

Be advised that the house is full of fruit. Melons, pears, and plum populations are nearly out of control. Also beets.  Adjust your mental stance accordingly.

Have a fantabulous weekend!

FND 3/21/13: Hobos and Posolutely Delicious Grilled Etc.

Hobo n. A baked-potato-sized, personalized foil packet full of various, usually canned, occasionally fresh ingredients which is cooked in the coals of a fire and then eaten, preferably in the dark (more fun that way).

We aren’t grilling people, if that’s what you thought. Anyway, they really don’t taste that great.

We are however, going to have the fire pit and the grill up in flames in order to obtain barbecuey, broily, charry goodness.

The grandparents will be here, so come try to keep up with them! No guarantees, but there might be dancing. They dance the Tango like crazy youngsters.  WOOOOOP!

See you then!

FND 3/15/2013: Pasta, in all its marvelousity

This week, pastapastapasta!

The folks are out again, leaving me (Mimi) to not set the house on fire and maybe serve up some dinner.

When I say pasta in all its marvelousity, I mean don’t just bring a jar of marinara. We’ve got that covered. I want to see the strudels and the bow-tie pestos and the gnocchis. Maybe some ravioli and tortellini. If you can’t spell it easily, you’re on the right track.

Hasta la pasta,
Mimi

FND 3/8/2013: Soup Sup

The soup’s up this week…

Turns out you’re not supposed to toss it. That’s salads. There may or may not be soup on the ceiling and it may or may not be anyone’s fault……

Bread! Yes! Bread is good with soup! Anyone want to be in charge of fresh bread? (I just changed the subject, did you notice?)
Although, I believe the origin of the FND email/notice system was everyone bringing bread and only bread to a sandwich FND, so PLEASE USE THE HANDY DANDY COMMENT THING.

There you are. Soup, preferably hot soup, and bread and companionship and a celebration for the end of yet another one of those ‘week’ things, and fireworks*

*there will not be fireworks.
