FND 6/7/2013: Last FND for a while, Classic potluck

This FND is the last one for several weeks (until Ray and Sam get back from North Carolina) so if you’ve been meaning to come, now’s your chance.

Since this week is a classic potluck, it’s all the more important to sign up. Make sure to remember to leave a comment with who and what you’re bringing!

FND 5/31/2013: Breakfast and More Breakfast…

…with a little bit of extra breakfast on the side.

Bring on the food-which-is-normally-eaten-in-the-morning-but-which-shall-be-eaten-in-the-evening!
Pretty sure that sentence would get me arrested for abuse of hyphens if anyone was keeping track of crimes against punctuation, but it gets the point across.

Here’s what I’m thinking: some cheesy grits, maybe some pancakes, some eggs, lots o’ bacon, a couple trees worth of fruit…a breakfast to be reckoned with.

FND 5/24/2013: Appetizers and Dessert

This Friday, the theme mirrors the purpose of FND itself- celebrating the end of the week and the beginning of the weekend. In this spirit, Appetizers and Dessert has been called (along with fish tacos–which qualify, I suppose)

An interest in chocolate has also been repeatedly expressed by certain friends of mine (all of them?) so if you aren’t feeling inspired, chocolate is the way to go.

There’s a whole world of small-plate possibilities out there, so choose your favorite and let’s eat!

FND 5/17/2013: Comida Mexicana and Stuff Swap

Extra extra! Mexican food is on the menu!

This Friday, we’re having the first annual FND Stuff Swap!
Bring your unwanted stuff to swap with  (you know the pile you keep meaning to bring to the thrift store, and the garage full of stuff for the garage sale you’re going to have last year?) eat some tasty Mexican food, and steal stuff from other people–legally! With their consent! How awesome is that?!
Ahem.

May 10 NO FND :(

Next week:  Stuff Swap!

5/3/2013: In need of some Comfort (food)

The merry month of May is actually the miserable month of May for American highschoolers. Why, you ask?  Because they are being tested to within a micron of their wits ends.  Star testing, Finals, AP, IB, SAT, ACT, Tech Challenge exams.  I’m sure there are more I have forgotten.  Pobrecitas.

So bring on the comfort food, cause this household is in dire need of some comfort.

Anyone up for a game of Apples to Apples to jolt us out of our misery?

Sad Sam, Miserable Mimi, and Rotten Ray

not to mention Sloppy Sarge, Terrible Tabu and Evil Ein

FND 4/26/2013: Pizza a la Sous

Sam (the pizza guy ’round these parts) is out of town, but Mimi and Ray have decided to make pizza anyway.

We figure we’ve got enough pizza sous-chefery between us to figure this thing out.
We’ll get the dough, sauce, and cheese, you bring your favorite things to put on top.

If you like fruit on your pizza, you can use the pineapple we have, but we ain’t eatin’ none o’ that stuff. Keep it at the other end of the table. Seriously, Ray is strongly opposed to fruity pizza. She just made a face at me for even mentioning it.

On the other hand, if you’d like to carry the pie theme on to dessert, she is highly fond of cherry pie. If you bring her some, she might forgive your abominable pizza habits. Just sayin’.

Since I am fond of making these messages overly long, here’s a head start on next week:
Friday May 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Claremont Community Foundation is the Claremont High School Student Art show, which I will have a piece in. It may mess with FND, or it may not, but either way I recommend checking it out.

FND 4/19/2013: (D)oodles of Math

Sorry for the late notice, it took us a while to get our acts together this week.

Instead of a normal FND, the Harvey Mudd College Moody Lecture is happening at 7:30 in Galileo Hall. The topic of discussion is the mathematics of doodling. Should be very interesting and there will be free cookies and other dessert-like items after the talk. We encourage you to check it out. If you don’t, we’ll see you next week for usual FND (but we won’t give you any cookies).

FND 4/5/2013: Breakfast of Absoballylutely Top Notch Champions, wot wot!

Hey folks,

I haven’t had the chance for a real breakfast all..week? month? I can’t even remember it’s been so long.
Maybe you’ve had really nice breakfasts with fruit and bacon and toast and waffles and eggs and……..

Maybe you’ve had really nice breakfasts, but I haven’t and I’m the one that decides these things. I say there’ll never be too much breakfast, so bring it on!!

Not the eggs though. PLEASE do not bring eggs. We have four dozen in the fridge, so if you want to make something with eggs, DON’T BRING EGGS, use ours.
Goodness there are so very many eggs. Shall we fry them?

Oh, may I shout about the blog a bit?  This isn’t real-time communication, you can’t say no! Hah!
SIGN UP ON THE BLOG. REALLY. BLOG. SIGN. UP. IN THE COMMENTS. HURRAY* SIGNING UP!!
*hurray is the word of the week.. So are sign, up, and blog.

See you Friday,
Mimi the Egg Master
and the other people who live here but didn’t write this.

FND 3/29/2013: Grandma Got Tasty Science

As a tribute to Ray’s awesome blog, Grandma Got STEM (ggstem.wordpress.com) which is getting lots of attention, this week’s theme is family recipes.

They don’t have to be age old secrets passed down from the stone age, but if you’ve got one of those -and the Mastodon meat it calls for- by all means bring it. Just make sure that Mastodon was free-range and organic, no pesticides in this house!

If you don’t know any family recipes, here’s some help: think of something that you eat when you’re with your family, or that you remember from your childhood. If it’s comfort food, even better!

I know this is a little bit of a vague theme, but I’m sure there’s a wealth of deliciosities out there waiting to be FND’ed. That’s a verb now, by the way.
