FND 06/04/10: Comfort Food

Pasta! Vast vats of it. And garlic bread and greens and ice cream and anything else I want and nothing I don’t want. So There because every day this week was a Monday.

But now it’s Friday! Woohoo.

RSVP por favor, domo arigatoo:

FND 04/16/10: Tacos y Tostadas

Tacos y tostadas!  We’ll have the shells and refried beans and cheese
ready.  Also handy are local avocados and some amount of salsa but I
know you’ll want to BYOS – it’s so personal.

Anyone have lettuce or other favorite ingredients?

Friday 4/9/10: Easy, over.

A quarter of the year is over! You’ve been busy – if my sources are right, too busy.  Time for a quick break.

I will scratch together soups and sandwiches: grilled cheeses on rye or wheat with a trace of horseradish,  or your choice of fixins.

Soup from an onion and some garlic roasted and chopped into ripe tomatoes.

An apple galette or two would be alright too.

FND 11/20/09: Grilled on the barbie

Welcome to the weekend.  Pull up a chair and have a plate of grilled squash, chicken or tofu, and a plate of greens.  Don’t pick at the greens.
Dinner starts promptly-ish when you arrive or sometime thereafter.
You may bring something(s) or someone(s) as you see fit, or just yourself; take a peek at the blog to see the who/what: http://fndeats.wordpress.com/

Phew, yay Friday.

FND 07/17: pasghetti and meatballs

FND is keeping it simple this week with spaghetti and meatballs, made fresh.  You could bring anything that would help turn lettuce into a salad, or your favorite side/beverage/dessert.  As I write this I realize I have a good veggie alternative, so never fear.

NEXT week FND will be away, taking a hard-earned vacation. Feel free to host your own, it’s easy and (often) delicious.

FND 07/10/09: Grilled

Friday Night Dinner will be grilled outside, sort of an instant replay of last weekend, everyone had a great time I hope.
Ray and Mimi are away so adjust your expectations, but they said we could use their stuff.

I have Hamburgers, hot dogs, and even maybe a salmon burger plus several veggie burgers. Anything else that gets tasty over fire?
Breads, toppings, sides? Dessert could be vanilla ice cream and/or those little mango/vanilla frozen things from Trader Joes. Yum.

Last week’s pancakes and waffles and bacon and sausage ice cream and (grabs chest), well it was great. We’ll do that again next month.

See you/have a great weekend!

6/26/09: Vegetarian Delights

Our friend Ana is here from NC and we want to show her some good eats. We will make some Ethiopian specialties. Anyone make a terrific veggie lasagne? How about veggie chili? Mac and cheese? Please avoid veggie burgers — we have done too much of those already.

Also note the new Lost and Found Posting.

As always, if you are coming, let everyone know who is gonna be here and what you are bringing at

See you soon,

FND 05/29: Just Desserts

It’s a 5th Friday – a rare occurence, so we’re going to try something unusual: just desserts. You always wanted this to happen and it never did (did it? you lucky rascal.)
I will make a galette or 2; they will go fabulously with feta and a fruit reduction. Oh yes, it’s all about AND. Also don’t put it past me to make something more savory than sweet – but not weird I promise. Not too weird. Mostly.

If this works out we’ll do it again the next month with 5 Fridays. My scientists say that will be July – many fruits in season.

Bring a dessert or the makings, bring a friend with a sweet tooth, drinks always help, most of all bring your whew-glad-THAT-week’s-over.

Pizza – May 15th

We’ll roll it and stretch it and throw it (which is stretching it) and cook it and eat it and you can help!

We like to make pizza from scratch once a month; this month I’m eyeing a recipe for white pie – not something I usually go for, but I can respect it. Traditional tomato sauce pizza will happen too.
If you can make a brilliant dough, or sauce, go for it, otherwise bring along your favorite brand of anchovies or pizza-related beverage.

Comfort Food – May 8th 2009

I will cook up a vat of mashed potatoes to go with the cauldron of collards (or kale if I can find some). What do Californians count as comfort food? Maybe not collards. Too bad.

For a main dish…hmmm ham hocks? No? A roast chicken is better? Ok. And a vegetarian sump’n, I guarantee it’ll be fried.
If it looks like a lot of folks are coming, someone grab a steer or more chickens, or a wildebeest.

We still have about 6 beers and several bottles of wine; could use other drinks.
The sorbet survived and we have some frozen cherries. Other dessert ideas?

See you, and/or have a great weekend!
