FND 1/10/14: The sound of one hand eating

In solidarity with an FND regular who has temporarily been reduced to the use of one hand*, this meal will not require cutting or two-handed hefting.  In fact the truly generous will forgo the use of both hands and eat as our ancestors did, with our faces.

Soup and salad are good places to start.  We have a good number of tortilla chips to dip in guacamole or salsa.

*She was victorious in the 2014/TX76123526 Pan-Galactic Arm/Tentacle Wrestling Competition, despite an underhanded poisonous shoulder sting. Booya.

Have a great weekend!

FND 1/3/2014: Breakfast^2

Breakfast is the first meal of the day, not counting late night snacks. So.

Oat & dark chocolate pancakes (think I can make gluten-free version too) will be a-griddling.  Bonus points for foods that somehow incorporate sums of binary products, e.g. 1024+512+…etc.

Bonus bonus points if you know why.

Have a great weekend!

FND 12/27/2013: Throwback Throw-down

2013 is so last year.  We’re going to celebrate its ancientness with an old school feast.  How old? My friend Thog here will explain:

Hungh. Thog put meat fire. Green food fire. Fire good. Thog LIKE fire.

[subtitle: We’re grilling on a wood fire; chicken, hobos and a whole huge pile of greens]

Thank you, Thog, so expressive. Put the burning log down, that’s a chum.

Have a great year!

FND 12/13/13: Breakfast and a dragon

Here’s the plan: Laemmle at 8:15.  If that doesn’t work, we’ll come back and burn marshmallows in the yard*.

Oh and we’ll have eggs and grits and stuff to fortify us for the movie.

What? What am I talking about? Did a new movie just come out? Is it the
MOST IMPORTANT MOVIE OF OUR TIME?

Why yes, and it has a dragon of course:
The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug

*We’ll probably do this regardless.

FND 11/29/2013: Thank.full. And yet…

Thanks to everyone for enabling our FND, aka, “Bring on the weekend” habit for so many years!

It’s time for a T-Giving swap meet: turkey, greens, wild rice, mushrooms, gravy, cranberries, stuffing, soups, and most especially desserts will be laid out on all of their splendor.

We have that stuff and we have it in carnivorous, gluten-free and veggie forms.  Whatchu got?

FND 9/6/13: Appetizing

Please note that FND this week will consist of items belonging to one or more of the following food courses: hors d’oeuvre, zakusi, starters, amuse-bouche, first course, tapas, antipasto, zensai, finger food, dim sum.

FND this week will *not* consist of items belonging to any of the following food courses: Last Meal, Confucius Mansion banquet, sautéed cicadas

Be advised that the house is full of fruit. Melons, pears, and plum populations are nearly out of control. Also beets.  Adjust your mental stance accordingly.

Have a fantabulous weekend!

FND 08/30: Get Comfortable

It has come to our attention that the Season of Relative Calm and Relaxation and Perhaps Occasional Travel has come to an end. It is to be replaced by a Time of Sustained Effort, Attention, and Perhaps Snacks.

Well. We don’t know who is responsible for this course of events, and it does seem less than ideal. We would like to register our displeasure if We could find the appropriate authority.

Until such a time as We can complain — at which point the Transgression will doubtless be immediately rectified — We propose to feast on those foods from which comfort can be derived. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…

No. Wait. That would be tedious. Bring Us instead your family casserole recipe, or cupcakes, or Very Funny Stories. We’ll make fresh popcorn and pasta and grilled cheese sandwiches.

FND 07/26: Watermelon. Uh huh.

Okay and hot dogs.  Quite a few different beers and 4 kinds of mustard.
Mango sorbet.

I know what you’re thinking; it sounds ambitious.  I tell you I can pull it off, but if you insist on helping then bring what you like and let’s roll in the weekend.
