FND 3/21/13: Hobos and Posolutely Delicious Grilled Etc.

Hobo n. A baked-potato-sized, personalized foil packet full of various, usually canned, occasionally fresh ingredients which is cooked in the coals of a fire and then eaten, preferably in the dark (more fun that way).

We aren’t grilling people, if that’s what you thought. Anyway, they really don’t taste that great.

We are however, going to have the fire pit and the grill up in flames in order to obtain barbecuey, broily, charry goodness.

The grandparents will be here, so come try to keep up with them! No guarantees, but there might be dancing. They dance the Tango like crazy youngsters.  WOOOOOP!

See you then!

FND 3/15/2013: Pasta, in all its marvelousity

This week, pastapastapasta!

The folks are out again, leaving me (Mimi) to not set the house on fire and maybe serve up some dinner.

When I say pasta in all its marvelousity, I mean don’t just bring a jar of marinara. We’ve got that covered. I want to see the strudels and the bow-tie pestos and the gnocchis. Maybe some ravioli and tortellini. If you can’t spell it easily, you’re on the right track.

Hasta la pasta,
Mimi

FND 3/8/2013: Soup Sup

The soup’s up this week…

Turns out you’re not supposed to toss it. That’s salads. There may or may not be soup on the ceiling and it may or may not be anyone’s fault……

Bread! Yes! Bread is good with soup! Anyone want to be in charge of fresh bread? (I just changed the subject, did you notice?)
Although, I believe the origin of the FND email/notice system was everyone bringing bread and only bread to a sandwich FND, so PLEASE USE THE HANDY DANDY COMMENT THING.

There you are. Soup, preferably hot soup, and bread and companionship and a celebration for the end of yet another one of those ‘week’ things, and fireworks*

*there will not be fireworks.

FND 3/1/13: Everything but the main course

Hiya Folks,

It’s Mimi this time, and looks like I’m hosting all by myself this week…please don’t leave me to eat alone…

It’s been long enough, I think we can let Mr. Appetizers, Ms. Desserts, and Sir Salad back in the house. To celebrate the warm weather we got this week, airy refreshments all ’round.

This is the first (EVER!) FND email I’ve sent, and I’m feeling the nerves, so I dug up an FND notice from 2006 and I’m just gonna copy a bit from there. I promise I’ll be original next time. Also funny. These things should be funny. Read on if you want ideas.

According to (Ray?) 2006, appetizers should include:

chips and dips

pickles / olives / tapenade

caviar / cream cheese / regular cheese / crackers

hummus / pita / stuffed grape leaves

sushi

little sandwiches

See ya tomorrow!
-Mimi
PS. in case you were wondering how I had an FND email from 2006, I actually have every FND email since I got an email, archived. I read them sometimes. More often than you’d think, they’re pretty hilarious. Good memories.

2/15/2013: Birthday and Mexican Food

This week we have a special bday guest from the wintry midwest. Ursula is back in the house and ready to eat avocados. C’mon out and show her some FND love.

Firepit and marshmallows, anyone?

See ya’ll soon now, ya hear?

FND NOW: SOUP!

Bring whatevah goes with!

Sam and Maybe Meem

FND 1/4/2013: Tacos

Tacos rock.  Right?  Bring your favorite fillings and toppings.

Unless you are thinking of hot sauce, cause we have a gazillion versions of hot sauce (thanks, Allegra!).

We will have crunchy and smooth wrappers and refried beans.  You could even make your own tortillas if you get the inclination.

See ya soon!

FND 10/26/2012: Pan Asian Food

Did you know that if you are the first person to say you are coming to FND, you get to call the theme???

This week we are waaay ahead of the game (which means this email is coming out on time), and we are having all-kinds-o-Asian food. A festival really.

Could be stir fry or rolls of all kinds (spring, egg, maki) … boba anyone? How about some sushi? Bi Bim Bap? Tofu delight? Something hot and spicy?

I’ll make sticky rice…. nummy.

Happy rest of your week.

FND 8/24/2012: Breakfasty goodness

Breakfast and all the breakfasty goodness you can muster.

Dan and Lauren are cooking up some frittata.  Meem and Sam and I will make some kinda baked good — biscuits and/or challah.  We’ll scramble up a mess o eggs.
We’re aiming to sit down to eat between 6:30 and 7, so feel free to come early if you wanna cook at our place.
Happy end-o-week!
Ray

FND 8/10/2012: Salads, Small bites and homemade bread

It is just too blazing hot to cook in the afternoon!  So let’s have some cool salads and small yummies.  We’ll make some bread at a cool time of day (or somewhere with AC).  Orders for Icy Blended Drinky Wonder will be filled on demand.

See you soon!
