Lucky dumplings

Friday the 13th never scared FND, but if it did we could always resort to lucky dumplings.  Uhm, and so we are: they may be steamed or fried or pot-stickery.

We’ll also have lots of rice and some greens and dipping sauce.  Bring your favorite dumpling(s), even/especially the two-legged variety.

05/06/11: Za Plus

Fast full week makes for last minute FND notices, QED, mea culpa, cogito ergo sum.

We’ll be at half staff here because of end of the semester work obligations, but dinner will be served, rest assured.
And dinner will be pizza, calzones, and for some reason I don’t understand, omelets. It’s as if les petite étrangers martiens a écrit le message FND.

We have dough, sauce, cheese, olives and anchovies (thank goodness!)
Bring a topping, drink, your friend or just your grumbly belly.

FND 04/29/11: >>> Sandwiches <<<

What we’ll do, we’ll take two pieces of bread – or one piece but typically two – stack a combination of lettuce or other salad-type vegetables, possibly cheese, perhaps meat(s) onto them and certainly add condiments which may be spreadable, sprinkleable, or tossable condiments.  In the event only one piece of bread is used we will call these, ‘open face’  If the bread is subsequently heated in a pan or pressed between heated iron plates then we can add, ‘grilled’, or ‘toasted’ as descriptive terms.

The preparation of these, ‘sandwiches’ will likely render us thirsty so we will drink cold refreshing ‘beverages’ as we eat.  The beverages do not have to be constructed in the same fashion as the sandwiches.  They can just be made of liquids.

FND: 02/04/11: Spaghetti

Latest Fnd announcement ev4r!

(insert a dozen excuses here)
(also our dog ate our homework.)

We did a great job of emptying the pantry before vacation and haven’t restocked, so spaghetti it is!
The sauce will be from scratch and delicious or your money back!

The garden stayed busy while we were away, so there can be salad and/or chard. It would help to have a few things that go well with lettuce.

If we don’t see you, have a great weekend!  If we do, you can also have a great weekend.

FND 01/21/11 Fried rice, steamed dumplings

Today we toil but let us wok together into the peas-ful world of tamari.

We’re working hard to clean out our fridge (come help!) – might be out of more stuff than usual and push more leftovers on you.
We do still have some regular and adult beverages; need dessert and your favorite ingredients, dish, or person.

FND 01/07/11: Taters

I will make a humongous vat of potato soup through which you will not be able to read a magazine. We have some greens that need to be picked and consumed but more would be most welcome.
Bring what you think goes well with potatoes (I hear they’re the new black).

Oh! Last week we feasted and TOTALLY FAILED to even open the two bottles of champagne. Also: Dogfish Head 60 minutes, sitting there. Just saying.

Have a great weekend!

FND 11/19: tacos y tostadas

I think I have shells, etc under control. And I’ll make meat and veggie fillings/toppings.  Salsa, lettuce, onions… Don’t really have the right kinds of cheese, kinda low on drinks, no dessert  unless you count unlimited Halloween candy.  Happy weekend!

FND 10/22/10: Comfort

Cool rainy weather is:

  1. Awesome
  2. Appetitifying

I’ll make a beef roast*, mushroom stew**, and roasted butternut and pumpkin pieces with a peppery sweet glaze**. We also have bread and some beer, prolly some wine. We can use drinks, your favorite comfort food, dessert, and your stories of a week well-fought.

*not vegetarian-friendly
** vegetarian-friendly

FND 10/15/10: Breakfast

No breakfast since July! We’re hungry!

In particular, I require breakfast burritos. I haven’t had a good one since that time in the San Jose airport at the height of the internet bubble when the plane was repeatedly delayed for fog and the only thing open was a jammin’ burrito stand that didn’t exactly look legit but when you’re starving with no food prospects the rest of the day you just buy 5 and stuff them in your carry-on. really, what could go wrong?

FND 7/30/2010 Soup

Sorry for the no-notice, here’s the deal this week:

Soup!  I will make homemade tomato soup and have rye bread and chard at hand.

Ray and Mimi are away on a secret mission to see family and friends in NC, SC, etc. So you can’t see them, but you can see the new cat and dog.

Have a great weekend!
